CHRISTMAS FEATURE

Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal 30th Anniversary

For 30 years, Kmart and the Salvos have been working with the Australian public to put something under the tree for families in need.

True stories from Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal

Every year the Salvos help hundreds of thousands of everyday Australians doing it tough. People experience this the most at Christmas time and two families tell us why the Wishing Tree Appeal  means so much to them.

MESSAGES FROM SALVOS LEADERS

  • Truth for today by General André Cox (international leader of The Salvation Army)

  • A refreshing reminder by Floyd and Tracey Tidd (National Leaders of The Salvation Army Australia)

Letting our Christmas light shine

One of my favourite things about Christmas time is the lighting displays that materialise around the neighbourhoods. The twinkly, sparkly decorations that light up the night sky in December help my mind know that Christmas is just around the corner.

Picture-perfect Christmas

I love holiday movies. I start watching them in November and begin a countdown to see how many I can squash into my schedule before Christmas Day. Last year my tally was 43, so it’s fair to say that by the time 25 December rolled around, I was overflowing with Christmas spirit.

Christmas Day, a time of peace and goodwill for all?

It’s now one month until Christmas Day. So have you prepared your plans? I don’t mean the food and the presents, but your plans on how to manage Christmas expectations and emotions.

Gifts that mean more from Salvos Stores

This Christmas, buy gifts for your family and friends from your local Salvos Stores and give a gift to the community, with 100% of the profits from every sale going back into programs that help Australians in need.

Celeb style Christmas!

Christmas is a wonderful time to kick up our heels and get together with family and friends. It’s always fun to hear about other people’s Christmas plans, so Julie Houghton asked eight celebrities from the worlds of music, literature, sport and television how they like to celebrate the big day.

The gift of hope

Jon and Beth were there for each other through Beth’s battle with cancer—
and the Salvos were there for them both, writes Naomi Singlehurst.

SILVIE PALADINO: A HOLY GIFT

For many of us, it is hard to imagine Christmas without Carols by Candlelight—and it is hard to imagine Carols by Candlelight without Silvie Paladino. A regular performer at the event, Silvie brings not only an incredible vocal range and a spectacular voice when she takes the stage, but also a faith that understands the meaning of the carols she sings.
