Have a ‘One of A Kind’ Christmas

November 30, 2018

The festive season—and the busiest shopping time of the year—is here. And with it comes a new season for Salvos Stores across Australia.

The 330 iconic stores are now under one national banner, with a new website and online store, giving people the opportunity to truly embrace a #OneOfAKind Christmas.

“By buying something donated, or donating items or money, you’re helping people have a meaningful Christmas through the work of The Salvation Army,” says Salvos Stores CEO Matt Davis.

“We really want our stores to help build healthy community and support the much-needed work of the Salvos into the future.”

From Southport to Bunbury, Hobart to Darwin, Salvos Stores are welcoming locals into a place where they not only find some great bargains, but a sense of community as well. At this time of the year, staff and volunteers are also keen to share the message that the best gifts also enhance the world and our community. A ‘One Of A Kind’ gift isn’t always wrapped in a bow; it can be an act of love and generosity to those who need it most.

As Salvos Stores ushers in a new season alongside The Salvation Army in Australia, its mission is to reinforce what they call its ‘Triple Bottom Line’.

“We’re about funding Salvo program, providing people with meaningful opportunities to develop, and looking after the environment,” says Matt.

He says donating 100 per cent of profits to Salvo programs remains a priority—in 2018, $39 million was raised to help the most vulnerable people in our community.

Acting under one banner also allows Salvos Stores to focus on engaging volunteers, many whom enter through the Federal Government’s Work for the Dole program. Around 10,000 volunteers currently lend a hand at their local store, receiving training which results in many receiving employment opportunities.

Lastly, Salvos Stores look to eliminate landfill and create sustainability for the environment. They currently keep 30,000 tonnes of waste out of landfill and see this as integral to the Salvos mission.

The new online shopping function provides the option of purchasing or bidding on collectables, homewares and everyday items that will be delivered.

In a season where many people are doing it tough, it’s empowering to know that by each doing our little bit we can make a difference in the lives of the people around us.
