One Voice: Believe

Aled Jones with Lucas Jones

Rating: 5 / 5

It’s unusual for a secularly successful singer to produce an album of mostly faith-based songs. But Welsh baritone Aled Jones is in a class of his own, and One Voice: Believe includes many recently discovered recordings of 10-year-old Aled, from his days as a young chorister. These beautiful recordings also feature adult Aled so we hear duets between the boy and the man.

The album also features Aled’s 12-year-old son Lucas in a superb duet with his dad of Howard Goodall’s Psalm 23 ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’, the theme song from The Vicar of Dibley. A special inclusion is ‘Believe’, written by Aled to express his own strong faith.

There is also the touching ‘An Australian Blessing’ from Australian composer Richard Mills, and delightful versions of ‘Pie Jesu’; ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’; ‘Morning Has Broken’ and ‘The Day Thou Gavest’.
