Captain Cook’s Apprentice
Rating: 4 / 5
What was it like to be young and adventurous in the 18th century?
Cabin boy Isaac Manley, a lad with a passion for the sea, accompanies Captain James Cook on his Pacific voyages before returning to England.
The three-year journey is full of the harsh realities of life at sea—flogging for misdemeanours, deaths, but also the excitement of discovery of both new lands and loves for young Isaac when they reach Tahiti.
While many sailors did not survive, Isaac Manley later married, became wealthy and lived to a ripe old age.
