A Year at Hotel Gondola

Nicky Pellegrino

Rating: 4 / 5

Kate has spent her life travelling and writing about food. At 50 she wonders if she has missed something. After falling in love with an Italian who runs Hotel Gondola, a guesthouse in Venice, she pitches an idea to her publisher. She will write about her first year in Venice—the sights, the recipes, the people she meets and her search for the real Venice, known only to locals.

Alternating between her own experiences and chapters of the book she is writing, we travel through Venice, enjoying the food, the characters and the beauty of this unique city. It made me want to see this Venice, not as a day tripper but to immerse myself in its life.

She describes the meals she experienced and even gives you the recipes—this is a great holiday read!
