When to Jump
Rating: 3 / 5
This book is for those thinking about a career change, inspired by author Mike Lewis’s decision to abandon investment banking and chase his dream of playing squash professionally. Lewis has collected accounts from a host of other professionals who explain how and why, like him, they left their job and took a chance.
The stories have a universal message—don’t forget your passion. The contributing authors relate how they yearned to reignite an idea from their past and make it a career. This is the ‘jump curve’—a four-step process from realisation to action: listen to the little voice, make a plan, allow yourself to be lucky, and don’t look back.
However, he doesn’t elaborate much on these steps so those looking for guided advice may be disappointed. As a collection of individual experiences, this book is at best a source of inspiration for your own jump.
