Music for Mindfulness
Rating: 3 / 5
With two hours of music on this album, there is certainly plenty of choice. And therein lies the problem—there is too much variety for a collection of music that is meant to calm us and be a background for stopping and cutting out all outside influences to breathe and live in the moment.
Some of the tracks are too engaging, meaning that, instead of being mindful and still as we listen, our brains are engaged in following the melodies. Having said that, there are some beautiful tracks that are ideal for mindfulness and relaxation.
The album is a good mix of classical and contemporary composers, ranging from Hildegard von Bingen, Debussy and Holst to the poster boys of modern classics, Eric Whitacre, Arvo Pärt and Max Richter. The lush choral and quietly reflective piano tracks work best for mindfulness practice.
