A Place to Call Home
Music from seasons 1–5
Rating: 3.5 / 5
When we watch television or films, it’s easy to take for granted the music that floats along in the background to accompany the action.
This new release of the music from the successful Australian period drama
A Place to Call Home is a worthy inclusion in the home music library. It’s an interesting mixture of new and atmospheric instrumental music written by composer Michael Yezerski, and existing music that belonged to this post-war period of great change in Australia.
The Andrews Sisters pop up, alongside wartime sweetheart Vera Lynn and Ol’ Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra, with a smattering of Bach, Louis Armstrong, Doris Day and Nat King Cole. All the music is evocative of the period A Place to Call Home is set in, and the double CD set would be a great companion on a car trip or in the background for summer entertaining.
