This is a war story I have never heard before, because it is the tale of the ‘hush hush’ army.
Known as the ‘Dunsterforce’, this was an elite force of hand-picked men who assembled in London in late 1917 to head up a secret mission in the Caucasus.
While it brings to life the horrors of war, these battle-hardened soldiers from Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada and South Africa went above and beyond; doing acts of kindness, starting soup kitchens and bakeries, giving shelter and medical attention.
Held in high regard by a people who believed that nobody cared for them, in an area ravaged by politics, war and drought, these soldiers became saviours and miracle workers.
Secret Army is about a fighting force that saved more lives than it took. I loved reading the heroic stories of these great men, especially those from Australia.
