A Very Merry Christmas
Rating: 5 / 5

This trio of New Zealand-based Samoan guys can certainly sing up a storm. Keeping it all in the family, Sol3Mio comprises tenor brothers Pene and Amitai Pati and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay. Being related gives them a great vocal blend, and Sol3Mio’s close harmony work is flawless and sublime.

The overriding feeling of this album is fun and sincerity, with a range of Christmas songs, sung by three extraordinarily good classically trained singers. The album kicks off with a toe-tapping version of ‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’, before launching into Moses’ original song ‘Return to Santa’ which is a lot of fun.

‘O Christmas Tree’ is beautifully sung, and there is a definite South Seas feel to some tracks, with ukuleles used to great effect on ‘Mele Kalikimaka’ (Hawaiian for Merry Christmas) but every track on this album is a winner.
