The Footy Lady
Rating: 4.5 / 5
Some books truly deserve the description ‘inspirational’ and The Footy Lady—the trailblazing story of Susan Alberti is one.
Described as ‘a gutsy lady’, Alberti has a high profile as the former vice-president of AFL club Western Bulldogs, and the driving force behind the AFL Women’s League.
But this successful businesswoman and philanthropist is so much more, running the Susan Alberti Medical Research Foundation, raising millions of dollars for diabetes research in honour of her daughter Danielle who died in her arms on a plane from America to Melbourne for a kidney transplant.
Author Asher knows her subject well and writes candidly but with great empathy. Alberti comes across as equally comfortable with the likes of the late Hollywood star Mary Tyler Moore and Collingwood AFWL star Moana Hope. If we had more Susan Albertis, the world would be a better place.
