Off Reservation is a modern day ‘Boys’ Own Annual’ story, featuring a tough Aussie commando. It’s a classic good guys versus bad guys story, full of spies, bombs and weapons, but you’re left guessing as to who is working for which side, providing intrigue and suspense.
The Taliban, MI6 and the CIA are battling for possession of a nuclear weapon being sold by the Russians. The author is a former Special Forces officer himself, so the story feels authentic.
The book is action-packed and full of suspense, so most characters are only given superficial treatment.
There is plenty of violence, some quite graphic. It also contains offensive language and a detailed sex scene, which was unnecessary because it was recalled from the past and not central to this story.
Although Off Reservation is a well-written, fast-moving, modern story of espionage, I won’t be passing this book on.
