Pinning Clouds

Jacqueline Dark

Rating: 4 / 5

Whether Jacqueline Dark sings a Wagner opera or Mother Superior in The Sound of Music, she is famous for using her rich voice to reach the hearts of her audience.

Her debut solo album Pinning Clouds shows Dark’s warmth and sincerity, as she sings music theatre hits like ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, a Stephen Sondheim medley, and Joni Mitchell’s pop classic ‘Both Sides Now’.

Dark obviously adores working with other performers and Our Time features her junior Sound of Music co-stars and her young son Alexander as backup singers, which is a cute touch. Dark also sings ‘So Soon’, a song penned by fellow Australian songbird Debra Byrne.

But the highlights are ‘Last Day on Earth’, reminding us to value life, and Leonard Cohen’s famous ‘Hallelujah’, where she teams with her best friend, opera singer Kanen Breen. Simply stunning.
