Rewriting Motherhood

The Babes Project

Rating: 5 / 5

The Babes Project supports mothers facing overwhelming and unexpected pregnancy in Victoria, and this book is a tale of triumph against the odds.

Ten mothers, most of them young, tell their stories of how they turned the shock of unexpected pregnancy into a journey of amazing love and determination to give their babies the best lives they can.

The stories range from young mums struggling with different cultures, to mothers with addiction histories or mental health problems, to a very young teenage mum. Many found that partners suddenly vanished when they discovered they were responsible for a pregnancy, leading the reader to wonder why these brave young women must shoulder the entire load.

Enter The Babes Project, providing the support and acceptance they desperately need. The beautiful photos of mums and bubs are inspiring and moving and tell the story as much as the text does.
