Nu Day 2008
Music: Dindy Vaughan
Piano: David Laughton

Rating: 4 / 5

It’s an inspirational experience to listen to a classical piano collection of 12 pieces written about the 2008 government apology to the Stolen Generations. Australian musician Dindy Vaughan composed them to reflect Aboriginal culture and history, culminating with the ‘Arnhem Land Lullaby’ as a hope for peace.

Many different moods and stories are explored, giving Australian pianist David Laughton enormous scope for telling the story of Aboriginal displacement and reconciliation through music.

Vaughan tells us that for so many Aboriginal people ‘The Long Road Home’ reflects the struggles, generation upon generation, to re-establish self in a meaningful self-determined, dignified spiritual environment’.

Laughton’s superb playing ranges draws us into the dramatic and emotional story. A fine and respectful musical tribute in NAIDOC week.
