Australia has many excellent female novelists, and Fiona McCallum is the queen. Finding Hannah sets up an unbelievably happy scenario, with Hannah enjoying a blissful marriage with Tristan and a wonderful relationship with her parents that is the envy of her friends.
But in the blink of an eye, Hannah’s life is changed dramatically and we wonder if she will ever recover. She suffers unimaginable loss, and after witnessing her incredible happiness, we are plunged into Hannah’s desperate journey for emotional survival, helped enormously by close friends and a wonderful older lady who has survived great grief.
Apparently the storyline parallels the author’s own journey, and this is why it is a fascinating exploration of grief and recovery that rings true. This is a must-read book and it’s hard to put it down.
