Daughter of Mine

Fiona Lowe
Rating: 4 / 5

Well-written family sagas are hard to resist, and Fiona Lowe’s new book about three sisters would make an excellent book for a long plane trip. Harriet is a successful surgeon with a perfect life, while lawyer-turned-farmer Xara copes with a disabled daughter and lively twin boys, supported by a reliable husband.

Primary schoolteacher Georgie has a tragic past, while mother Edwina is the widow of the girls’ surgeon father. Events suddenly shatter their ordered lives, with Edwina being given a second chance at happiness that was taken from her decades ago. Harriet’s perfect life suddenly collapses, due to her dodgy husband, while her daughter Charlotte has a surprise of her own to reveal. Georgie is given a chance at happiness, if she is brave enough to take it. Lowe is a perceptive creator of characters and this fascinating family saga should enthral you until the satisfying ending on page 498.
