NSW Premier Mike Baird last month officially launched Bible Society Australia’s bicentenary celebrations.
The organisation is the nation’s oldest continuously operating organisation. On 7 March, 1817, NSW Colonial Chaplain William Cowper, together with Elizabeth Macquarie and Rev. Samuel Marsden, formed the Colonial Auxiliary Bible Society of New South Wales, which was placed under the patronage of Governor Lachlan Macquarie.
Mr Baird spoke on ‘Why the “Good Book” is as relevant to Australian life today as it was when the society was formed.’
